What are Lions all about?

Nearly 1.4 million Lions members in over 200 countries and geographic areas answer the needs that challenge the communities of the world.

Lions improve the quality of life in their local communities. We are also global neighbors providing immediate and sustained relief in times of disaster and offer long-term assistance to those in need.

Lions collect, recycle and distribute eyeglasses locally and in developing countries, treat millions of people to prevent river blindness, and we hope one day to eradicate preventable blindness around the world.

Whether helping the blind or hearing impaired ...conducting drug or diabetes awareness campaigns ... providing recreational opportunities for the handicapped … sponsoring basic research into the causes and treatment of blindness ... providing children with sports equipment or just a place to play … or raising the funds to make it all possible, service always comes first for a Lion. That is why Lions Clubs International is not only the largest, but the most active service club organization in the world.

Who are Lions?
Beginning in 1917, Lions Clubs International has evolved into the largest and most active service organization in the world.
LIONS ARE people who have decided to give something back to their communities, who are dedicated to finding people in need, and who meet those needs in an efficient but caring way.
LIONS ARE committed to solving major, worldwide health and social problems, and realize that solutions are possible when every Lions Club does its share.

LIONS ARE people who cherish the friendship and fellowship of their own club, but who also feel a close kinship with fellow Lions in more than 190 countries and areas throughout the world.

LIONS ARE patriotic; giving allegiance to their country, while recognizing that all people must one day learn to live in peace.

LIONS ARE dedicated to maintaining the highest ethical and moral standards in their club - and in their personal lives.

LIONS ARE serious about their commitment to humanitarian service, but don't mind having a little fun along the way.

Mission Statement:

To create and foster a spirit of understanding among all people for humanitarian needs by providing voluntary services through community involvement and international cooperation.

Lions Code of Ethics:

TO SHOW my faith in the worthiness of my vocation by industrious application to the end that I may merit a reputation for quality of service.

TO SEEK success and to demand all fair remuneration or profit as my just due, but to accept no profit or success at the price of my own self respect lost because of unfair advantage taken or because of questionable acts on my part.
TO REMEMBER that in building up my business it is not necessary to tear down another's; to be loyal to my clients or customers and true to myself.

WHENEVER a doubt arises as to the right or ethics of my position or action towards others, to resolve such doubt against myself.

TO HOLD friendship as an end and not a means. To hold that true friendship exists not on account of the service performed by one to another, but that true friendship demands nothing but accepts service in the spirit in which it is given.

ALWAYS to bear in mind my obligations as a citizen to my nation, my state and my community, and to give them my unswerving loyalty in word, act and deed. To give them freely of my time, labor, and means.

TO AID others by giving my sympathy to those in distress, my aid to the weak, and my substance to the needy.

TO BE CAREFUL with my criticism and liberal with my praise; to build up and not destroy.

Lions Club Objects:

TO CREATE and foster a spirit of understanding amount the people of the world.

TO PROMOTE the principals of good government and good citizenship.

TO TAKE an active interest in the civic, cultural, social and moral welfare of the community.

TO UNITE the clubs in the bond of friendship and good fellowship and mutual understanding.

TO PROVIDE a forum for the open discussion of all matters of public interest; provided, however, that partisan politics and sectarian religion shall not be debated by club members.

TO ENCOURAGE service minded people to serve their community without personal financial reward, and to encourage efficiency and promote high ethical standards in commerce, industry, profession, public works and private endeavor.

The Lions of District 2-A2 proudly serve 21 Texas counties:

Atascosa, Bandera, Bexar, Dimmit, Edwards, Frio, Gillespie, Kendall, Kerr, Kinney, LaSalle, Live Oak, Maverick, Medina, McMullen, Real, Uvalde, Val Verde, Webb, Wilson, and Zavalla.

District Governor Amado "Manny" Carrillo's goals this year:

1. Increase membership in District 2-A2 by 180 members
2. 60% of the Clubs participate in the DG 100% Contributions Program
3. 50% of the Clubs earn 100% President and Secretary Awards
4. Three new Lions Club, one new Campus Club and One new LEO Club
5. Send 20 Kids to the Texas Lions Camp
6. Timely payment of District and International Dues

Upcoming District Events:

2nd Cabinet meeting will be in Utopia on October 18th 2008

Mid-Winter at San Antonio (Windcrest Lions) on 16-17 January 2009

The District Convention is here in Del Rio on April 3rd and 4th, 2009.

In addition, Council of Governors will meet in Del Rio on Nov 8th 2008.
